Roosevelt Corollary/ Monroe Doctrine

The Monroe Doctrine

This political cartoon is on the issue of the Monroe doctrine and The Roosevelt Corollary. It is also about how the U.S and Europe's relationship is effected from this. The cartoonist message is showing hoe the Roosevelt Corollary took the Monroe Doctrine a step further. An other opinion someone will most likely have of this would be that Roosevelt is being far too defensive. Personally, I think it shows the Roosevelt Corollary in action because the king is trying to interfere. Some techniques the cartoonist is using are labeling of Monroe Doctrine, Republic of Santo Domingo, and the U.S ship. Another technique used is exaggeration, because the cartoon shows the U.S sticking a cannon in Europe's face and ready to fire at any slight movement but that is really not reality. This supports my opinion because it is showing hoe effectively the Roosevelt Corollary is allowing the U.S to keep their territories, and not loose them to Europe.
